Fiona Henderson

Candidate for Council

Throughout my working life, I have been inspired and guided by the values of the union movement. Having experienced wins achieved through collectivism, I know first-hand the importance of a strong and healthy union movement. We are fortunate at the QNMU to be leaders in not only membership numbers but also in the way our members are involved in standing up for their rights within their workplaces through grassroots activism.

I am Branch Chair of the Cairns Hospital Branch and have served on the QPC for some years now, seeing firsthand the difference members can make in order to lead change and direction within their workplace.

In 2019, I was involved in a serious accident on my way to work, which has left me with several disabilities. This lived experience has helped me view the role of nursing and midwifery through a different lens, especially seeing I can no longer undertake bedside nursing.

If elected to council, I vow to serve for all members from the Torres Strait to the southernmost corners of Queensland so that in solidarity we can grow our mighty union and make nurses and midwives an even stronger force to be reckoned with.
