Queensland’s nurses and midwives united in common purpose
In our vision of the future, nurses and midwives are well remunerated and highly regarded professionals whose workplaces are vibrant, free of bullying and occupational violence.
They work to their full scope of practice with sustainable workloads and know that their workplace culture is not unique, in part, because nurse-to-patient ratios have been legislated across the state.
Graduate positions are highly prized and when new graduates enter their profession, they are well supported with access to a rich assortment of professional development opportunities – a trend that continues throughout their career.
When nurses and midwives retire, they do so in comfort, with access to the superannuation they deserve for their lifetime of professional contribution. Then as they age, they do so with dignity, safe in the knowledge that should they require aged care, the staff that support them will be well resourced, well trained and operating in positive workplace culture – just as they were.
Friends, ours is the largest union in Queensland, with a strong track record of delivery for members.
While we have so much to be proud of, there is more work to be done.
The QNMU needs leadership that can unite and galvanise its members to insist on:
safe work
secure work
respected work.
If elected, holding the State Government accountable for their pre-election commitments and those secured during EB12 negotiations will be a focus.
As will be building power in our workplaces to ensure we are in the best position possible to improve pay and conditions.
You are the union. You are indispensable professionals who make a critical contribution to the health and welfare of our society on a daily basis.
It’s important as an organisation that the QNMU are able to remain relevant, responsive and reflective of our membership but also the professions of nursing and midwifery. An elected QNMU Members United team will ensure this happens.
