Our record of service to QNMU members

QNMU Members United is an experienced, responsive and effective team with a proven track record of wins for nurses and midwives.

We are fighting for safe, secure and respected work for our professions.

We unashamedly put the best interests of our members first in everything we do.

No-one can match our achievements for members over the past four years.

Together we have:

  • Grown our union to more than 75,000 members.

  • Made a difference in aged care with:

    • Significant pay rises for aged care nurses and carers

    • New laws to ensure Registered Nurses are rostered 24/7

    • Mandated minimum care minutes

  • Made a difference in midwifery with Queensland legislation now stipulating that a newborn baby is to be counted as a patient when they are staying on a maternity ward with their birthing parent.

  • Made a difference in the private sector with more than 95% of private sector members covered by enterprise agreements that have similar rates or better than the public sector.

  • Made a difference in the public sector with expanded nurse-to-patient ratios and secured commitments from the Queensland LNP Government to:

    • Maintain nation-leading wages and conditions for Queensland’s nurses and midwives.

    • Expand minimum nurse-to-patient and midwife-to-patient ratios to other areas of Queensland Health.

    • Implement the strategies within the Health Workforce Strategy for Queensland to recruit 18,781 FTE nurses and midwives by 2032.

Building on success

The work of our union is never done, and the QNMU Members United team are committed to building on these successes to grow our union’s power and influence. QNMU Members United will work hard so we can better represent, work with and support Queensland’s nurses and midwives.

Our record shows we have the right stuff to do this:

  • We are, and always will be, member focussed.

  • We believe in building up and supporting our colleagues and our professions.

  • We are relationship builders, and value robust, positive and collaborative relationships.

  • We are advocates for professional practice.

  • We hold firm to our nursing, midwifery, and union values.

  • We are strategic planners, who make evidence-based decisions, articulate clear goals and deploy resources to secure great outcomes.

  • We don’t shy away from a challenge, and will take on a battle when necessary.

  • We stand for a fair go for all.
