Gen Phillips

Candidate for Council

I have been a member of the QNMU since 1995 and was motivated by the late Secretary, Gay Hawksworth, because of her strong democratic leadership and her ability to listen to nurses.

I have worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years. I was a general trained nurse and studied my post graduate and masters in Mental Health Nursing. I’ve worked in RBWH, PAH and Alice Springs, in addition to ten years working in London in a private psychiatric hospital.

Since becoming a union delegate I have been active in all campaigns and rallies, and was heavily involved in the Ratios Save Lives campaign.

Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare industry.

I often reflect on a union shirt I own that says, “NURSES WORTH LOOKING AFTER” – because I know deep in my heart that we need to support nurses and listen to their voices.

As Councillor, I will listen to nurses, be their voice, and make sure we have the power to make a difference.

Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.

Support for Gen

“I am pleased to provide this testimonial in support of my colleague, Genoveva, for the role of Councillor with the nurses' union. Having had the privilege of working alongside Gen for several years, I have seen her unwavering dedication to supporting her colleagues and advocating for their well-being.

Gen is a compassionate and approachable professional who consistently goes above and beyond to assist fellow nurses. She has a natural ability to listen, provide guidance, and offer practical solutions to workplace challenges. Her strong communication skills and deep understanding of the pressures within the nursing profession make her an ideal candidate for this role.

She is highly respected among her peers for her integrity, professionalism, and commitment to fairness. Gen has always been a strong advocate for a positive work environment and is passionate about ensuring nurses feel valued, heard, and supported. Her ability to navigate complex situations with care and professionalism sets her apart.

I have no doubt that Gen would be an asset to the union in this capacity. Her dedication to the nursing profession and her genuine desire to support her colleagues make her well-suited for this role. I highly recommend her and am confident she will make a meaningful contribution.”
