Karla Orellana

Candidate for Council

I started my nursing career at the RBWH 27 years ago having had experience in neurology, dermatology and cardiology, and am now a clinical nurse with the Infection Monitoring and Prevention Services.

Nursing is a way for me to give back to the country and the people that gave us protection after arriving in Australia with my family in 1986 as political refugees.

We were persecuted for union participation in Guatemala, so there was no question that I would become a very proud QNMU union member as soon as I started my nursing career.

Advocating for the rights of nurses and midwives, is something that I feel very passionate about.

I experienced so many inequalities and injustices before arriving in Australia. This is why I strongly support the QNMU’s commitment to a fair society and its advocacy to improve the quality of life for all Australians.

As nurses, we can do that by advocating to keep our health system safe and human. As your Councillor, I will ensure your concerns are heard and acted upon.

Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.

Support for Karla

“I have know Karla Orellana for approximately seven years during which time I have periodically worked very closely with Karla in our nursing role. I have always found Karla to be a kind and compassionate person who most importantly will stand up for justice and fairness for her colleagues and patients alike. She has strong leadership qualities, and I sincerely endorse her as an excellent candidate for the role of Councillor with QNMU.”
