Michelle McInness
Candidate for Council
I’ve been in aged care for 25 years. It’s a passion and a calling for me, but we can do so much better in the way we look after our elderly.
Holding their hand when they take their last breath; sitting with them when they are confused or scared; or even just having a cuppa and talking about their childhood. Some of those stories are amazing and I’m so privileged to be able to care for them.
I’ve been with QNMU for years, holding roles as a union representative, delegate and now branch chair, growing the branch from 30 to 50 members.
I am an activist, who has made it very clear to employers that carers should not be tasked with kitchen and cleaning duties that take us away from our residents.
I am an Emma Miller Award recipient and was part of a delegation to Canberra that met with MP Anika Wells to advocate for aged care workers.
I am proud to stand up for anyone who needs support, especially carers and nurses.
Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.
