Suri Hobday
Candidate for Council
With your vote, I will work tirelessly to keep health services honest and accountable, and improve our nursing workforce.
I have been a nurse for over 21 years working across Qld, NT, WA and New Zealand, from the city to the bush.
I have worked in private and public settings, across several fields including mental health, Emergency, Acute Care, Community and forensic services.
I currently work as Clinical Nurse Consultant within the Police Mental Health Co-Responder. I am also a QNMU Delegate, Workplace Representative and Health and Safety Representative at the Cairns Hospital. It has been a privilege to work with such a caring and compassionate community, which has been integral in developing an advanced understanding of nursing and shaped my value of unionism.
My passion is to stand for a fair and just system. My values of humility, equality, inclusivity and respect allow me to influence the development of a respectful, safe and progressive workforce.
In fulfilling my candidacy, I will represent you now, for a better tomorrow.
Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.

“Working in several teams over the past 6 years with Suri, I have witnessed her to have qualities that I believe are required for this position. Suri is well-known amongst her colleagues to be a champion for the rights, not only of nurses, but workers throughout the workforce. She is well known to go above and beyond in not only maintaining the current award, but has a keen eye and is always looking at ways to improve workplace conditions.”

“In support of Suri Hobday’s candidacy for QNMU council, Suri has been an invaluable colleague, support person, union and legal resource person, and most of all a caretaker or my rights in difficult times in the workplace.
During my time working with Suri, I needed support on many levels. I was subject to psychosocial hazards which took their toll on my mental wellbeing. Suri supported me through this time, her humility, respect and care was invaluable, she stood by me at every turn and her advocacy and guidance was literally lifesaving.
Suri is totally dedicated to QNMU and making workplaces healthy and equitable for the worker. Her proactive influence, advocacy and knowledge to provide the most current industrial information is paramount. She is always available to the members of the QNMU and all workers that she meets. I witnessed her strategic actions when she raised concerns for workers psychological safety at relevant consultative forums. When improvements stalled, she submitted a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) initiating accountability and consultation to conduct Psychosocial Safety Risk assessment to improve workers safety.
Suris integrity, compassion, accountability and respect are forefront in everything she does as a QNMU representative, a Workplace Health and Safety Representative, a Clinical Nurse Consultant, and a Colleague. Her positivity, authenticity, determination and innate leadership qualities make her an excellent candidate for QNMU Council.”
